The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently announced that 15 drug kingpins have been collectively sentenced to 168 years in prison as part of its crackdown on drug-related crimes.
In 2023, the NDLEA made significant strides in combating drug trafficking and abuse, resulting in the conviction of over 3,400 offenders and the seizure of more than 578 metric tons of illicit substances.
Chairman Brigadier-General Mohamed Marwa emphasized the agency’s commitment to curbing the flow of drugs into the country and ensuring justice for those involved.
Additionally, the NDLEA recognized outstanding personnel and commands during an awards ceremony in Abuja, highlighting the crucial role played by its dedicated team in safeguarding communities against the dangers of drug abuse.
Alongside enforcement actions, the agency intensified its advocacy efforts through initiatives like the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), conducting over 2,700 sensitization programs across various settings.
Collaborations with state governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders further bolstered outreach efforts, while rehabilitation and reintegration programs aimed to support individuals affected by drug addiction.
Leveraging social media platforms, the NDLEA expanded its reach and engagement, reinforcing its message of combating drug abuse and promoting a drug-free society.
