Gombe State Chief Judge, Justice Halima Sadiya Mohammed, has released 182 inmates from Custodial Centres under the Gombe State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, flagged off the exercise at Kano Maximum Security Custodial Centre, citing the need to decongest facilities for humane reformation and rehabilitation.

Dr. Nzekwe Romanus Anayo, representing the minister, stated that most beneficiaries were indigents unable to pay fines.

Philanthropic efforts raised N585bn nationwide for this purpose, with N13,436,780.00 spent in Kano State.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of Renewed Hope, offering inmates a second chance for societal contribution.

Controller General of Corrections, Halliru Nababa, praised the minister’s commitment.

In Gombe, 182 inmates regained freedom through a Criminal Justice Reform Committee chaired by the chief judge. Notably, 55 were unconditionally released, 105 released on bail, and 22 released for good behavior after serving their terms.
