A 21-year-old man, Halilu Yusuf, has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a six-year-old boy.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abubakar Aliyu disclosed the arrest during a press briefing on Wednesday in Katsina.

On August 17, at around 2 p.m., acting on credible intelligence, our command apprehended Halilu Yusuf, a 21-year-old resident of Gezawa near Shinkafi village, in connection with the suspected kidnapping of a six-year-old child, Aliyu said.

Aliyu explained that the suspect, Halilu Yusuf, lured and abducted the boy, who is the son of his mentor, from the Kofar-Sauri area. Yusuf then demanded a ransom of N2 million from the boy’s father.

The suspect initially kept the abducted child in his room overnight before moving him to another location to avoid detection, unaware that police were tracking his movements.

The police spokesperson added that Yusuf made an anonymous phone call to the boy’s father, informing him of the kidnapping.

Upon receiving the report, the police command quickly mobilized a team of operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Katsina, to investigate the matter.

The team successfully traced and arrested the suspect, and the victim was rescued unharmed, Aliyu stated.

During the investigation, Yusuf reportedly confessed to the crime. Aliyu confirmed that the suspect would be prosecuted and charged in court upon the completion of the investigation.
