In a recent statement following the inaugural session of the Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Control, the House of Representatives has proposed the declaration of a national emergency regarding the prevalent issue of malaria within the nation.
In light of this, the House has strongly recommended that the Federal Government take action by either subsidizing malaria medications or making them freely accessible at all government-operated healthcare facilities. This move is intended for the betterment of the nation.
Members of the committee expressed their concerns about the significant impact of malaria on the population and the limited availability and high cost of medications.
They pledged to investigate how Nigeria has collaborated with the Global Fund to combat HIV/AIDS and address the malaria crisis.
The committee is responsible for crafting legislative measures related to the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
They also aim to coordinate and standardize government and non-governmental organizations’ activities related to these health issues, ensuring the effectiveness of government efforts in controlling and treating HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
