In a recent judgment, an Abuja High Court has issued an order for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the former CBN governor.
The case involved the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Attorney General of the Federation, Chairman of EFCC, and EFCC as respondents.
It is important to note that Emefiele had previously been released by the DSS following multiple court orders but was subsequently re-arrested by the EFCC.
The ruling, delivered by Justice O. Adeniyi, was in response to a request made by Emefiele’s lawyer, A. Labi-Lawal.
In summary, the judge ordered the Attorney General of the Federation and EFCC Chairman to release Emefiele immediately or bring him to court for a bail hearing.
Furthermore, the court has scheduled the substantive motion on notice to be heard on November 6, 2023, at 1 p.m. Both the order and the motion will be provided to the respondents.
