Tragic Kebbi Accident :11 Lost Their Lives, And 22 Others Sustained Injuries.

At least 11 individuals tragically lost their lives, and 22 others sustained injuries of varying severity in a devastating car accident in Kebbi State.

The accident occurred when a truck carrying both passengers and a cargo of beans, traveling from Sokoto to Ibadan, Oyo State, veered out of control and somersaulted at Giron Masa village in the Shanga Local Government Area on a fateful Friday.

The Kebbi State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed that this unfortunate incident took place during the early hours of November 3, 2023.

The accident involved a Volvo DAF truck bearing the registration number KWA 230 SKK, driven by Alhaji Sule, a 40-year-old from Gada LGA in Sokoto State.

Tragically, the truck was carrying passengers and bags of beans from Sokoto to Ibadan. As it reached Giron Masa village in Shanga LGA, the driver lost control, resulting in a catastrophic somersault, leaving 21 passengers with various degrees of injuries.

In response to the incident, the Shanga Division of the police swiftly dispatched a team to the scene, who then transported the victims to General Hospital Shanga for medical treatment.

A medical doctor at the hospital confirmed that 11 individuals had tragically lost their lives, while the remaining injured passengers were receiving treatment.

The Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, CP Chris Aimionowane, offered his prayers for the departed souls, wishing them eternal rest.

He also emphasized the importance of safety measures for transport unions and all road users, urging them to be vigilant, observe speed limits, avoid overloading, and drive with care to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
