Two individuals lost their lives in an unfortunate incident at the Canadian High Commission, where a diesel tank explosion led to a fire.
FEMA spokesperson Nkechi Isa confirmed the incident, stating that the explosion occurred at approximately 10:45am in the generator house during the servicing of two MIKANO generators by a team from JMD company.
Isa explained that one generator was operational, while the other was undergoing maintenance when a 2,000-liter diesel tank in the generator house exploded.
Tragically, two of the maintenance personnel lost their lives in the explosion, while two others suffered severe burns and were promptly transported to the Trauma Centre at the National Hospital in Abuja.
Additionally, President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences to the Canadian government and the victims of the fire incident.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, the President conveyed his sympathy to the Canadian government, the diplomatic community, and all those affected by the fire at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja.
President Tinubu also assured the Canadian authorities of the Nigerian government’s full support in assisting the diplomatic and local staff affected by this tragic event.
He offered his prayers for the souls of the departed and wished a swift and complete recovery to all injured individuals.
