The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Bago, has taken the initiative to establish the State’s Refugees Commission in response to the considerable number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the region.

To address the needs of these IDPs, he has allocated an initial grant of N500 million.

Governor Bago made this announcement during a presentation to approximately 700 households who had received relief materials from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.

He stressed that the State Refugees Commission will function under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, with the primary goal of effectively addressing the challenges faced by the IDPs.

Additionally, Governor Bago expressed his concern that Nigeria should strive for self-sufficiency rather than depending on external assistance.
