The House of Representatives, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals and the 10th National Assembly’s Legislative Agenda, officially established its Basic Education Committee during a meeting on Tuesday.
This committee, comprising distinguished House members, is under the leadership of RT. Hon. Mark Bako Useni, former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly and Representative of Takum/Ussa/Donga Federal Constituency.
During the inaugural meeting, Hon. Useni urged committee members and the National Assembly Bureaucracy to earnestly work toward accomplishing the legislative objectives set by the Hon. Tajudeen Abbas-led House of Representatives.
He emphasized the need for commitment and thoughtful approaches to reform the basic education system in Nigeria, aligning with the 10th Assembly’s legislative agenda to enhance basic education.
The Leader of the Labour Party Caucus, RT. Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, expressed his dedication and support for the Committee’s Chairman and emphasized the importance of taking this committee’s work very seriously due to its significant impact on the youth population in Nigeria.
Other committee members echoed the sentiment that the future of basic education in Nigeria relies on the quality of legislative efforts by the committee and pledged their commitment to help reposition the education sector, ensuring competitiveness on the global stage.
They also commended the work plan outlined by the Committee Chairman, which will guide the committee’s legislative oversight activities moving forward.
