Mr. Toluige Olokoobi, the husband of Mrs. Toluige Olokoobi, who tragically took her own life, was apprehended by the Edo State Police Command.
Mrs. Olokoobi was known as the mother of Oreofeoluwa Lawal-Babalola, the young boy who gained fame on social media for his heartfelt plea, mummy be calming down, in a viral video from 2020.
This video had deeply moved Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, who used it as a message of reassurance to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
After the meeting with the governor, the family largely stayed out of the public eye, until tragic news broke that the boy’s mother had taken her own life in Benin, the capital of Edo State, for reasons yet unknown.
A witness known as X mentioned being present at the scene on Monday afternoon and revealed that Mrs. Olokoobi had not confided in anyone about her struggles before making this heartbreaking decision.
She left behind her husband and three children, including the well-known ‘Mummy Calm Down’ boy.
Regarding the incident, Mr. Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo State police command, spoke with BBC Pidgin and disclosed that Mr. Olokoobi had been arrested and was currently in custody for questioning.
Nwabuzor explained that the husband had reported finding his wife hanging with a rope around her neck upon returning from the market.
They rushed her to the hospital, but sadly, she was later pronounced dead and taken to the mortuary.
