An investigative panel under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has uncovered the reasons behind the non-payment of salaries to certain health workers at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Dr. Aderemi Azeez, leading the investigation, revealed that the former Chief Medical Director, Dr. Olumuyiwa Owojuyigbe, engaged in extensive over-employment and job racketeering without budgetary provisions.
Owojuyigbe reportedly hired 1,973 staff, surpassing the 450 vacancies approved in the 2022 employment waiver.
Health workers, facing financial strain from ten months of unpaid salaries, accused OAUTH management.
Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, confirmed the completion of the investigation, expressing commitment to equitable resolution.
