Lagos State residents faced significant challenges navigating roads on Sunday as relentless rainfall led to extensive flooding, rendering sections of the road impassable.
The downpour persisted from early morning until the afternoon, affecting areas such as Egbeda, Idimu, Isheri-Oshun, and Akowonjo in the Alimosho Local Government Area.
Our correspondent observed vehicles navigating through flooded sections of the Egbeda-Idimu road, with similar challenges reported on the Idimu-Ikotun road.
Vehicles resorted to driving against traffic due to flooding on the road inward Ikotun. Akowonjo Road also experienced flooding, causing slow-moving traffic.
Frustrated motorists called on the government to address the recurrent flooding, emphasizing the need for prompt action.
The slow traffic, compounded by the high volume of floodwater, resulted in gridlock and breakdowns along affected routes.
One motorist, Steve, highlighted road damage caused by the flooding, urging the government to intervene before the situation leads to loss of lives.
As a consequence of the traffic, some commuters found themselves stranded at bus stops, facing a shortage of commercial buses.
Those available reportedly increased fares. In response to inquiries, Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotoso stated that ongoing efforts were being made to address drainage issues in the state.
