A statement from Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, the President of the Court of Appeal, disclosed the relocation of the Kogi Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal from Lokoja to Abuja.

Future sessions will be held at the National Judicial Institute on Umar Yar’Adua Way. The decision, prompted by security concerns, follows repeated assaults on tribunal staff in Lokoja, with the latest incident involving armed assailants stealing documents and personal belongings.

The tribunal officials’ safety has been increasingly jeopardized, culminating in the decision to move to a safer location. This development poses significant challenges to the tribunal’s functionality, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) emerged victorious in the November 11 gubernatorial election, with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) securing second place, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
