The Anambra State Police Command has verified that five individuals lost their lives in a nightclub shooting in Awka, the state capital. Preliminary investigations indicate the incident arose from a dispute among patrons, with ongoing efforts to identify the assailants.
Aderemi Adeoye, Anambra State Police Commissioner, disclosed that among the victims were two local vigilance group members, a bouncer, and two revelers.
The commissioner expressed sorrow over the unfortunate event, asserting commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice. Additionally, the club owner was reportedly abducted by the attackers.
A statement to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) conveyed the commissioner’s determination to thoroughly investigate the incident, reassuring the public of ongoing efforts to apprehend the culprits.
The police responded to a distress call around 2:00 a.m. on Monday, though the assailants had fled by the time officers and local vigilance group members arrived at the scene.
The commissioner noted that a police Rapid Response Squad had patrolled the area until midnight, emphasizing ongoing police efforts to locate and apprehend the perpetrators.
