A driver narrowly avoided tragedy on Monday when his LT bus erupted in flames on the Longbridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The incident occurred around 10 pm as the vehicle was transporting goods towards the Berger area of Lagos State.
Despite the perilous situation, the unidentified driver managed to salvage some of the goods before the entire bus was engulfed in flames.
Ojo Oloye, the head of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, MFM Unit Command, disclosed on Tuesday that the fire resulted from a detached and faulty fuel tank while the bus was in motion.
He explained, The fire was caused by a faulty fuel tank that got detached while the vehicle was in motion, igniting in the process.
By the time we reached the scene, the bus was already burnt beyond recognition. We are taking steps to clear the wreckage from the road to prevent further accidents.
