Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, presented the 2024 budget proposal to a four-member House of Assembly inside the Rivers State Government House before the complex’s demolition.

No items were removed before the demolition, which occurred about two months after hoodlums bombed a section of the complex.

While the state government has not officially commented, sources suggest the demolition is linked to renovation efforts following the October bombing.

Speculations arise that the demolition aims to prevent the faction loyal to Fubara’s predecessor, Nyesom Wike, from holding plenary among the 27 factions.

This incident follows a High Court order allowing Fubara-backed assembly members to conduct legislative business without interference.

The split, triggered by a political tussle between Fubara and Wike, worsened as the Wike-backed faction defected to the APC, prompting calls for vacant seats and fresh elections.
