In two separate incidents, a total of 14 shops were ravaged by fire in Kwara. The first occurrence took place at Zion Overcomer around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, while the second incident happened at Tanke Oke-Odo around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Fortunately, the Kwara State Fire Service managed to save 16 out of the 31 affected shops.

The firefighting efforts were focused on the Tanke area, where 16 shops were rescued from the blaze. Mr. Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, highlighted their quick response to extinguish the intense fire at Zion Overcomer on Tuesday.

During the firefighting operations, lasting until 18:11 hours, seven out of 17 shops in Zion Overcomer were affected, resulting in an estimated property loss of N19.3 million. However, property worth around N79.5 million was successfully saved, and thankfully, no casualties were reported.

Responding swiftly to a fire on University Road in Tanke Oke-Odo, Ilorin, the Kwara State Fire Service successfully put out the fire affecting seven shops and 16 metal kiosks. Both incidents were traced back to a power surge in the area.

The Director of the state Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, advised the public to prioritize safety, especially during the harmattan period.

In case of emergencies, he emphasized the importance of promptly calling the fire brigade to ensure the protection of lives and properties in the state.
