In an announcement on Wednesday, Jumia Technologies, the e-commerce giant, disclosed its decision to discontinue its food delivery service, Jumia Food, effective December 31.
The cessation extends to various nations in which Jumia operates, including Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Uganda, and Algeria.
CEO Francis Dufay emphasized the company’s strategic shift towards focusing on its core physical products business and payment platform, citing significant expansion potential and a clearer path to profitability.
The move involves redirecting resources and personnel from the food delivery service to reinforce the core business.
This decision aligns with recent trends, as Bolt Food, a major player, also revealed its exit from the challenging African food delivery market, departing from Nigeria and South Africa.
