Adebeso Precious, a Siwes student at D. S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, reported two friends, Noah Tovohome and Rajay Zannu, who have been remanded by the Magistrate’s Court in Yaba, Lagos State.

The court alleges that the two friends conspired to kill their mutual friend, Segun Zusu, over 36 bags of rice.

The case was presented before Magistrate Linda Balogun on Tuesday, where the defendants were charged with two counts of murder.

The court heard that Tovohome and Zannu collaborated with a boat driver transporting Zusu’s goods from Seme to execute the crime.

Intercepting the boat at Novo River in Seme around 2 am, they assaulted Zusu with a plank, throwing him into the river. Subsequently, they took the bags of rice to Badagry, sold them for approximately N1.4 million to a businesswoman, and divided the proceeds.

Police prosecutor Chekwube Okeh informed the court that the defendants committed the offense on November 12, 2023.

The charges against them, as stated by Okeh, contravene Section 222 and are punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants did not enter pleas, and Okeh requested the court to remand them in a correctional center pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Magistrate Balogun granted the request, directing that the defendants be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until the DPP provides legal advice.

The case has been adjourned until January 22, 2024, for the DPP’s advice.
