The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has initiated a probe into claims that a Nigerian undercover reporter obtained a university degree in Cotonou, Benin Republic, within just six weeks.

ICPC Chairman, Musa Aliyu, met with the reporter at the ICPC headquarters to delve into the matter, as reported by the Daily Nigerian.

The investigation sheds light on concerns surrounding rapid degree issuance at Ecole Superieure de Gestion et de Technologies in Cotonou, prompting the ICPC to call for collaborative efforts to address the alleged fraudulent practices.

In response, the Federal Government has suspended accreditation of degree certificates from Benin Republic and Togo, pending an investigation involving various ministries and security agencies.

The move aims to curb the exploitation of illegitimate qualifications for job opportunities. The Ministry of Education urges public support and emphasizes the global challenge of dealing with clandestine institutions.
