The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works, is set to commence the repair of the Third Mainland Bridge.

The closure will affect the Iyana Oworonshoki-Adeniji Adele bound route, focusing on comprehensive repairs for the entire section of the bridge.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that this closure is part of the ongoing repair work initiated in November 2023, initially addressing the ramps and now extending to other parts of the bridge.

Osiyemi provided a travel advisory to ease commuting during the repair period. From 12 am to 12 noon, the bridge will be open for Mainland Inbound Island travels, while the reverse route is advised to use Eko Bridge.

From 12 noon to midnight, the flow will be reversed to accommodate Island to Mainland travel, with Mainland to Island motorists directed to use Eko Bridge. These timings aim to align with peak traffic periods and reduce travel stress.

The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, announced that the planned closure will begin on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, with the first phase focusing on the Lagos Island-bound carriageway.

Each phase is scheduled to last six weeks, with the subsequent phase moving to the Adeniji-Adele-Iyana Oworosonki end of the bridge.

Motorists are urged to adhere to traffic rules, use alternative routes, and cooperate with traffic management officials during this repair period.

The 11.8 km Third Mainland Bridge, undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation, stands as the longest of the three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the Mainland and the second in Africa.

The Federal Government emphasizes the importance of public cooperation for a smooth repair process.
