The EFCC is set to interrogate Dr. Betta Edu, the suspended Cross River state Commissioner for Health, on Tuesday, January 9, 2023.
This move follows the immediate suspension ordered by Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, in response to a viral video allegedly showing Edu soliciting a bribe from contractors.
The ongoing investigation involves alleged financial irregularities and a reported attempt by Edu to meet President Tinubu, resulting in restrictions and a revocation of her access card.
Dr. Betta Edu, suspended by Bola Tinubu, faces EFCC questioning regarding allegations of soliciting a N585.1 million bribe and directing funds to a private account.
Denied access to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Edu’s suspension hints at serious financial misconduct, with her escorted exit from the president’s office amplifying the severity of the situation.
The incident may further tarnish her reputation within the government.
The suspension of Dr. Betta Edu occurs amid Nigeria’s economic crisis and security challenges.
The alleged misconduct adds strain to the government’s reputation, already marred by financial struggles and criticism for its handling of security issues.
The political implications of Edu’s suspension remain uncertain, raising questions about the government’s response to these challenges in the coming weeks and months.
