The Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has directed the removal of Divisional Police Officer Austin Arase from Gown Estate Division, based on the findings of an investigation into allegations made against him.

The decision comes in response to a report published in Punch Newspaper on January 4, 2024. The CP, in a statement signed by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, emphasizes the commitment to uphold the rule of law and states that any unprofessional or unethical conduct by officers will be sanctioned.

The incident involved lawyer Sonupe, who faced detention after seeking bail for his client, a carpenter, on December 30. CP Fayoade has initiated steps to engage with the Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos State Branch, to prevent similar incidents and enhance police-lawyers relations.

The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned the lawyer’s unlawful detention and demanded the release of CCTV footage recorded in the police station.
