Kano Allocates N3.9bn for Construction of 60 State-of-the-Art Milk Collection Centers
The Kano State Agro-pastoral Development Project has unveiled plans to invest N3.9bn in establishing 60 cutting-edge milk collection centers across the state.
Ameen Yassar, the Project Communication Specialist, announced on Wednesday that the funding comes from the Islamic Development Bank and the Lives and Livelihood Funds, with the goal of ensuring the supply of high-quality and safe milk through the implementation of a cold chain.
The contracts, divided into four lots, have been awarded to indigenous companies, each with a 12-month completion period.
Additionally, each center will feature a 250-litre tank powered by solar energy, a milk testing bench equipped with necessary reagents, and milk collection cans.
Mallam Ibrahim Muhammad, the Project Coordinator, emphasized the unprecedented nature of the investment in Nigeria, addressing the crucial issue of supply inadequacy and poor milk quality in the dairy industry.
He expressed confidence that the Milk Collection Centers (MCC) project would bridge the gap between pastoralists and the dairy industry, ensuring a steady income for pastoralists.
Ibrahim urged the contracted companies to deliver durable projects within the stipulated timeframe, underscoring the importance of justifying the confidence placed in them.
