The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is spearheading a $117 million initiative known as the System Transformation Grant (STG) in Nigeria.
This project, launched in six states including Bauchi, Kebbi, Abia, Kwara, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos, aims to uplift teaching and learning standards, with a focus on increasing access to quality education for children and youth.
During a workshop on January 15, 2024, Governor Mohammed highlighted collaborative efforts between his administration, the Federal Government, and UNICEF to tackle poverty and improve educational standards.
The STG project is seen as a crucial step toward ensuring all children have access to quality education, irrespective of their socio-economic status.
Governor Mohammed expressed confidence that with collective efforts, substantial progress could be achieved in improving education.
He welcomed the STG project, emphasizing its importance in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 and enhancing the lives of Bauchi state residents. The governor pledged support for successful project implementation in the state.
Governor Mohammed outlined his administration’s broader strategy to improve education, break the cycle of poverty, and enhance the quality of life in Bauchi state.
The STG project will address these goals by focusing on improving teaching and learning quality, enhancing school management, and increasing overall education access.
The governor stressed the significance of the Compact Development Workshop, emphasizing its role in effective STG grant implementation. He highlighted the workshop’s purpose in tailoring the project to Bauchi state’s specific needs, ensuring sustainable and effective execution.
Governor Mohammed detailed the STG project’s features, including capacity building for teachers and administrators, provision of educational materials, and improvement of school infrastructure.
The project will be implemented in phases, with the initial focus on enhancing basic education in the six pilot states, including Bauchi.
In addition to the STG project, Governor Mohammed showcased various education initiatives, such as constructing new schools, providing instructional materials, recruiting more teachers, and efforts to increase school enrollment and student retention rates.
These initiatives aim to provide equal access to education, ensuring every child in Bauchi state has the opportunity for a quality education.
Governor Mohammed concluded by emphasizing his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare, infrastructure, and the agriculture sector, underscoring a holistic approach to development.
