The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has clarified that the recent noise heard in Abuja was not due to a bomb explosion but was caused by the takeoff of a military jet.

The command urged the public to rely on official sources for accurate information and not to be alarmed by false reports. SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT police spokesperson, emphasized the commitment of the command to ensure the safety of all residents and urged cooperation in refraining from spreading rumors.

In response to the incident, the FCT police deployed a rapid response team and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit to assess the situation.

They confirmed that the noise originated from a military aircraft taking off and assured the public that the situation was under control.

Preliminary investigations revealed that an overheated metal refuse container exploded, injuring two workers who were evacuating the refuse.

The injured are receiving treatment at Maitama General Hospital, and the command is providing support to them and their families. Efforts are underway to improve waste disposal methods and enhance sanitation in the area.

The FCT police command announced plans for an awareness campaign on proper waste disposal and will conduct spot checks on businesses to ensure compliance with waste management regulations. An emergency response plan is being developed to deal with future incidents effectively.

To bolster security, the police command is increasing surveillance and collaboration with other security agencies while fostering community engagement to promote social cohesion and trust-building.
