In an effort to protect the musical rights of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, the House of Representatives summoned the controversial musician Azeez Fashola, who goes by Naira Marley.
This request came on Thursday from the House Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance. Additionally, Mohbad’s manager, Jiggy Adeoye, was also invited to appear on October 31.
Mohbad, a former artist under Naira Marley’s record label, tragically passed away under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023. In response, the Lagos State Government initiated a coroner’s inquest into the 27-year-old singer’s death.
The House’s decision to summon Naira Marley and review entertainment industry laws was based on a motion introduced by Babajimi Benson, the representative for Ikorodu Federal Constituency in Lagos State, during the same Thursday session.
Benson stressed the importance of revising these laws to protect artists’ copyrights and royalties.
