The Enugu State High Court, under the leadership of Justice A. O. Onovo, has ruled that the ban on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) imposed by the South-East Governors’ Forum was illegal, unconstitutional, and null and void. This ban was initially established in 2017, leading to the Federal Government categorizing IPOB as a terrorist organization.
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, sought the court’s intervention to reverse this decision, arguing that IPOB’s activities were expressions of self-determination and should not be considered illegal.
The court agreed with Kanu, deeming the proscription of IPOB unconstitutional and illegal. It also ordered the defendants to pay N8 billion in damages and publish a public apology.
Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Aloy Ejimakor, expressed gratitude for the court’s decision, emphasizing the significance of this ruling for justice and the common man.
