The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified efforts to combat crime and uphold moral values by conducting raids at graveyards and drug hotspots.
In the operation, 198 suspects were apprehended, reflecting the agency’s dedication to eradicating illegal drug activities and safeguarding public health and security in Kano.
Among the arrests, 42 suspects were caught at the Dan Agundi Graveyard, a notorious center for illicit drug transactions.
Additionally, 150 individuals were apprehended from various locations across the state. The NDLEA emphasized its commitment to lawful prosecution of the suspects.
The operation, disclosed in a statement by NDLEA’s spokesperson Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, underscores the agency’s determination to combat drug abuse and trafficking.
The initiative, part of Operation Hana Maye, led by Commander Abubakar Idris, aims to address the escalating drug-related challenges in Kano.
The statement outlined the closure of a club serving as a hub for drug trade, resulting in the arrest of 61 suspects, including 15 women actively involved in drug activities.
Furthermore, drug joints at Sheka graveyard and Sheka Obajana were dismantled, addressing long-standing concerns among Kano residents.
Apart from raids on drug dens and criminal hideouts, substantial quantities of various drugs were seized, including tramadol, codeine, Indian hemp, diazepam, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to collaboration with law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, and civil society to tackle drug-related issues effectively.
Emphasizing a comprehensive approach, the agency called for investments in prevention, treatment, education, and job creation to mitigate the socio-economic factors driving drug abuse.
It stressed the importance of international cooperation in combating drug trafficking, acknowledging its transnational nature.
In conclusion, the NDLEA urged collective efforts in addressing drug abuse and trafficking, recognizing the multifaceted strategies required to combat this persistent challenge.
