David Umahi, the Minister of Works, expressed concerns about the quality and durability of roads due to malpractices within the construction industry.
During a courtesy visit by the executives of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, Umahi highlighted discrepancies in road longevity compared to international standards, emphasizing the need for collaboration to address these issues.
Umahi, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Yakubu Kofarmata, pledged to work closely with engineers to improve road construction and management.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to specifications to fulfill President Bola Tinubu’s mandate of ensuring safe and durable roads nationwide.
Umahi urged engineers to prioritize national interests, emphasizing the role of ethical engineering practices in fostering a better Nigeria.
He called for consistent engagement between the Nigerian Academy of Engineering and engineers across various platforms to uphold the nation’s development agenda.
Onwualu, the President of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, commended President Tinubu for appointing an engineer like Umahi to lead the Ministry of Works, highlighting the significance of engineering expertise in driving infrastructure development.
