During the AFCON semi-finals match between Nigeria and South Africa, tragedy struck as two individuals lost their lives while watching the intense game.
A National Youth Service Corps member, identified only as Samuel, from Kaduna State serving in Adamawa State, passed away during the penalty shootout.
Samuel collapsed before Nigeria’s final penalty secured victory, and despite efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the General Hospital in Numan.
NYSC Coordinator in Adamawa State, Jingi Dennis, confirmed the incident, expressing condolences and emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of all corps members.
The late corps member, reportedly expressing a dislike for penalty shootouts, collapsed suddenly during the match, as recounted by his colleagues who accompanied him.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation, leaving many deeply concerned.
In a separate incident, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives representing the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State, also passed away during the same match.
Dr. Ojougboh, a medical doctor, suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed when South Africa scored a penalty against Nigeria.
The sudden loss of these two individuals highlights the importance of prioritizing health and safety during moments of excitement and stress.
The tragic events serve as a poignant reminder to cherish life and prioritize well-being, especially during moments of national significance like sporting events.
