The Lagos State Government, led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, has impounded more than 100 vehicles that were parked inappropriately on various bridges within the state.
This enforcement action comes following a seven-day notice issued on Monday, October 16, 2023, for motorists to remove their vehicles from these areas.
The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed this development in a statement made available to PUNCH Metro.
The primary goal of this enforcement is to eliminate traffic congestion on the bridges, and Sola Giwa emphasized that this operation will continue.
The affected vehicles, both private and commercial, were found in violation of parking regulations on bridges like Ejalonibu, Obalende, Apongbon Ebute-Ero, and Idumota (Cater) on Lagos Island. The owners of these impounded vehicles will face legal charges in the Lagos State Mobile Court.
Giwa stressed that this enforcement will persist until there is zero tolerance for illegal parking by commercial bus drivers on bridges, aligning with the administration’s Theme agenda and in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
