The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 24 suspected drug traffickers and dealers across eight states.
In a recent operation, a 42-year-old man was apprehended while transporting a significant quantity of narcotic tablets destined for insurgents in Banki, Borno State.
The agency’s crackdown on drug trafficking has led to substantial seizures of illicit substances in Borno, Kano, Benue, Enugu, Adamawa, Kaduna, Anambra, and other states.
Among those detained were a pregnant woman and three other women caught in various states including Anambra, Abuja, Kano, Ondo, Edo, and Lagos.
According to Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, the seizures include a major interception in Nnewi, Anambra State, where a commercial bus carrying 12.5 million Diazep tablets was seized.
The arrests and confiscations were made during interdiction operations conducted across different states.
Notably, in Nasarawa State, a truck carrying 367 jumbo sacks of cannabis sativa was intercepted, and three individuals were apprehended.
In the Federal Capital Territory, operatives arrested individuals and seized cannabis sativa hidden in a truck en route to Abuja.
Another operation led to the arrest of a suspected drug supplier to insurgents in Banki, Borno State.
Further seizures occurred in Edo and Kano states, where significant quantities of illegal drugs were confiscated, and individuals involved in drug trafficking were apprehended.
The NDLEA’s efforts remain steadfast in combating drug trafficking and reducing the circulation of illegal substances across the nation.
