The Labour Party’s National Working Committee has suspended Oluchi Opara, its national treasurer, for a duration of six months.
This decision was announced during a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
Opara’s suspension follows her accusations against the National Chairman, Julius Abure, and her claims of collaboration between the NWC and the opposition-led Edo State Government.
She further alleged mismanagement of 3.5 billion Naira generated from nomination form sales and fundraising activities.
In response, the Labour Party labeled Opara as a mole, alleging her association with dissenting factions within the party.
Despite inviting her to address the conflict, Opara failed to attend, and she has reportedly been in contact with expelled party members.
This development underscores internal strife within the Labour Party, marked by allegations of internal sabotage and discord.
It raises concerns about the effectiveness of the NWC’s response and its ability to navigate and resolve the ongoing conflict.
In response to what they perceive as a deliberate attempt to undermine the party, an emergency NWC meeting was convened on February 13.
As a result, a disciplinary committee has been established to conduct a trial against Opara for her actions, which are deemed detrimental to the party’s reputation and integrity.
