Residents of Benue State are dismayed by the recent surge in cement prices, which have soared from N5,500 to N8,000.

Locals and end-users have voiced their discontent, deeming the hike unjustified. James Toryila, a resident, criticized the increase, citing no significant changes in production costs and suggesting profiteering amidst economic challenges.

The escalating prices are causing widespread concern and frustration.

Toryila and Adzende echoed concerns about the Nigerian economy and the repercussions of escalating cement costs. Toryila labeled the economic climate as worrisome, unprecedented in the nation’s history.

Adzende highlighted the difficulty for residents to afford construction projects amid soaring prices. The sentiment among locals is one of deep apprehension.

Toryila urged government intervention to avert economic collapse, while Onah and Shima expressed astonishment at the sudden price hike.

Onah recounted purchasing cement for N7,500 on Monday, only to find it priced at N8,000 by Wednesday. Shima, a cement trader, argued that the increase had been gradual over time, countering claims of abrupt escalation.
