An early morning crash on Tuesday along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway at the Kere Bridge in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The collision between a truck and a Mazda bus bearing the number plate SMK 808 YD resulted in the tragic death of nine individuals, with seven others sustaining injuries.
According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the accident was attributed to excessive speed and route violation, leading to a head-on collision.
The injured have been promptly transported to the General Hospital in Ijaye, while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Lantoro Hospital in Abeokuta for deposition.
Okpe’s statement revealed that out of the 17 individuals involved in the crash, seven were male adults, nine were female adults, and one was a female child.
Of the injured, five were female adults, one was a male adult, and one was a female child.
Unfortunately, the crash claimed the lives of nine individuals, comprising five male adults and four female adults.
The vehicles involved were a black truck without registration details and a white Mazda bus with the registration number SMK808YD.
Meanwhile, Anthony Uga, the Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, urged motorists to avoid route violation and speeding, emphasizing the grave risks associated with these violations.
He reminded motorists to prioritize adherence to traffic laws, emphasizing that the road is a shared resource that demands collective responsibility.
Expressing condolences to the families of the victims, Uga prayed for the strength to bear the irreparable losses caused by the accident.
