The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) rebuffs claims circulated by an online news outlet suggesting that the Presidential Guards Brigade heightened alertness due to suspected coup activities near the seat of power.

Air Commodore Topbrass Okpere, DHQ spokesman, labeled the assertions as false, perilous, and irresponsible, emphasizing the absence of any coup attempt.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Acting Director of Defence Information, denounced the article, branding it as baseless and potentially destabilizing to national security.

DHQ affirmed the Guards Brigade’s duty to safeguard the Presidency and the Federal Capital Territory, discrediting rumors of unusual movements as unfounded.

General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, reiterated the armed forces’ commitment to upholding democracy, urging the public to disregard such fabrications.

Furthermore, DHQ urged security agencies to address Sahara Reporters’ conduct and cautioned against spreading unsubstantiated security rumors, advocating reliance on official channels for information verification.

Assuring the public, the military affirmed its dedication to safeguarding democracy and citizens’ rights as mandated by the constitution.
