A former acting Accountant-General of the Federation, Anamekwe Nwabuoku, has requested additional time from the court to refund N1.6 billion in allegedly looted funds.
Nwabuoku and his co-defendant, Felix Nweke, are facing money laundering charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Nwabuoku was appointed acting Accountant-General in May 2022 but was removed a few weeks later.
The defendants’ lawyers informed the court that their clients have made substantial refunds and requested an adjournment to complete the process.
The court has adjourned the case until October 14 for the defendants’ arraignment.
