The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a National Day of Solidarity Rally to protest the alleged illegal dismissal of five of its members by the Lagos State University (LASU) in 2019.

The dismissed lecturers include key union leaders: Isaac Oyewumi (Chairman), Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu (Vice Chairman), Dr. Tony Dansu (Secretary), Adeolu Oluwaseyi Oyekan (Assistant Secretary), and Oluwakemi Aboderin-Shonibare (Treasurer).

A letter obtained by PUNCH Online reveals that the rally aims to denounce the university’s inept, inglorious, and vindictive actions. The protest is set to begin at 10 a.m.

LASU management claims the lecturers were dismissed for unauthorized handling of confidential documents. However, the affected lecturers have denied these allegations.

ASUU’s rally seeks to draw attention to the perceived injustices against the dismissed lecturers and to press the university management to reconsider its decision, arguing the dismissals were unfair and intended to silence union leaders.
