FIFA announced on Monday that it has imposed a three-year ban on former Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales due to his unsolicited kiss on World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso.
This incident occurred during the medal ceremony after Spain’s Women’s World Cup victory in Sydney in August.
It’s evident that FIFA is taking this matter very seriously, and it’s crucial to monitor how it may affect Rubiales’ future in football. Whether this ban is justified considering the gravity of the offense remains a subject of debate.
Jenni Hermoso’s accusation against Rubiales is indeed serious, and her discomfort and violation are clear.
Rubiales, who claimed the kiss was consensual, resigned as head of the Spanish football federation in September.
FIFA has banned him for three years, but he has the right to request more information on their decision and potentially appeal.
Whether he chooses to do so is yet to be seen. FIFA’s commitment to respecting and protecting the integrity of all individuals and upholding standards of decent conduct is reaffirmed in this decision.
