The ongoing crisis within the Rivers State government escalated on Monday when the state Assembly purportedly executed an impeachment notice targeting Governor Siminalaye Fubara.
During a session presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon Martins Amaewhule, attended by numerous members, the House Leader, Hon Edison Ehie, and those loyal to the governor faced suspension.
Reports suggest that the explosion that occurred in the Assembly on Sunday night may have been an attempt to prevent lawmakers from accessing the Assembly on Monday.
As early as 7 a.m., several lawmakers gained entry to the House and promptly initiated a plenary session where they collectively endorsed the impeachment notice against the governor.
In the midst of this turmoil, armed policemen have cordoned off Moscow Road leading to the Rivers State House of Assembly.
