A blogger named Mienapoma Saint, associated with Naija Live TV, was charged by the Nigeria Police Force’s National Cybercrime Centre for cyberstalking and defamation of the Presidential Amnesty Programme and its leadership.
The charges were brought before a Federal High Court in Abuja. Saint, along with other media platforms and blogs, published false reports alleging fraudulent activities within the PAP, which were found to be untrue and likely to incite unrest.
Justice Emeka Nwite arraigned Saint on three counts of cyberstalking and defamation. Saint pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, until December 4.
The arrest followed a thorough investigation by the NPF-NCCC into the allegations made by Saint.
These allegations were deemed false and had the potential to disrupt peace in the Niger Delta Region.
The arrest was conducted professionally after discreet investigation and threat assessments on posts linked to the suspect, who had disseminated the false information through Naijalivetv.com and a Facebook account.
