A man, Akinosun Omotayo, who committed theft and attempted rape on New Year’s Day, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja.

Justice Modupe Nico-Clay handed down the sentence as part of a plea bargain agreement to reduce his punishment.

Omotayo, originally arraigned on charges of stealing, attempted rape, and assault, committed the offenses on January 1, 2019, at No Z46 Lekki County Home Ikota, Ajah area, Lagos State.

He stole items valued at N415,000 belonging to Mr. Olukayode Ojo and attempted to assault the complainant’s adopted daughter.

Omotayo, initially pleading not guilty, later admitted guilt to amended charges of stealing and attempted felony.

The sentence, starting from January 16, 2019, when he was remanded, was pronounced on Tuesday by Justice Nico-Clay.
