As Kano residents await the Supreme Court judgment on the Kano governorship election dispute, former governor Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau urges the New Nigeria People’s Party and the All Progressives Congress to gracefully accept the final verdict.
Shekarau shared this advice during an interview on Channels TV’s politics program.
Emphasizing his belief in the court process, the former governor stated that no amount of abuses, hatred, or hate speeches could grant or deny power.
The legal battle between Governor Abba Yusuf of the NNPP and APC’s Nasir Gawuna, stemming from the governorship election in March last year, has seen the tribunal and Court of Appeal nullify Yusuf’s election, declaring Gawuna the winner.
Facing tension and protests in Kano after reported discrepancies in the certified true copy of the Court of Appeal’s judgment, attributed to a clerical error, Yusuf sought a final verdict from the Supreme Court.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Shekarau advises both parties, NNPP and APC, to embrace peace and accept the Supreme Court’s decision. He appeals to them, highlighting that abuses, hatred, and hate speeches will not determine their access to power.
