Adedeji Fathia Bamidele, a Siwes student of Igbesa Polytechnic, reports on the alarming number of Nigerian youths awaiting trial or convicted for various crimes.
Archbishop Onuoha, President of the Christian Council of Nigeria, attributes this issue to the failure of the family system and urges parents to guide their children towards hard work and away from criminal activities.
During a thanksgiving service at St. Silas Anglican Church in Ihitte Uboma, Imo State, Archbishop Onuoha emphasizes the pivotal role of parents in shaping the future of Nigerian youths.
He laments the moral dislocation in society, attributing it to the neglect of parental responsibilities and calls for a return to core values such as hard work, honesty, patience, integrity, and diligence.
Onuoha highlights the need for condemnation of the growing trend of inordinate ambition leading young people towards crime and destruction.
He warns against a repeat of historical events like the Otokoto uprising if urgent action is not taken.
The Archbishop urges religious leaders, traditional rulers, and opinion leaders to reset the moral tone of society by recognizing and acknowledging only those with visible and genuine means of wealth.
He emphasizes the importance of teaching that faithfulness and integrity are paramount in life, urging society to value dignity of labor, hard work, and honesty over quick success.
Archbishop Onuoha concludes by warning that deviating from these principles may further endanger society.
