The Advocacy for Social Justice and Ethical Values Initiative (ASJEV) has issued a call to Nigerian youth, urging them to steer clear of undesirable behaviors, such as drug use.

In a statement made during a press conference on the occasion of this year’s Global Ethics Day, themed Ethics Empowered, ASJEV’s General Secretary, Mrs. Gbolahan Daodu, emphasized the importance of ethical behavior in building a well-functioning society. She encouraged young people to embrace ethical principles in their choices and actions.

Daodu explained, Ethics encompasses a set of moral principles that guide individuals’ conduct, both at home and in society. These principles define what is right and wrong, serving as a framework to address societal order, just as envisioned by Hobbes.

Furthermore, the ASJEV General Secretary advised that parents should be more involved in understanding their children’s friendships, academic progress, and overall well-being.

She also suggested that the government should organize informative sessions for young people to raise awareness about the perils of engaging in social vices, and schools at all levels should uphold a certain level of discipline.

Daodu concluded by proposing that the government, through the National Orientation Agency, should establish a genuine connection with the Nigerian populace by conducting meetings across all six geopolitical zones.

The aim would be to identify challenges and collaboratively address them with a shared strategic vision for the nation’s expectations in various sectors of the economy.
