The People’s Republic of China and Nigeria are actively pursuing green and low-carbon development, aimed at fostering sustainable growth and creating an eco-friendly society.
This shared commitment was emphasized by Ms. Yan Yuqing, the Consul General of China in Lagos, during the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
Ms. Yan highlighted the ancient Chinese philosophies of benevolence and love for people and the world, advocating for harmony among all things.
She stressed that both China and Nigeria are working to make the world cleaner and more beautiful by promoting green and low-carbon development.
China recently released two white papers that outline its vision for a global community of shared future and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Over the past decade, the BRI has become a significant platform for international cooperation, focusing on infrastructure development, harmonized rules, and people-to-people connections.
China and Nigeria’s partnership over the years has deepened, with both nations supporting each other on core issues and coordinating on international and regional affairs.
They have jointly addressed security challenges and contributed to world peace and development.
Economically, China and Nigeria have been engaged in trade and numerous projects, such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the Lagos-Ibadan Railway, which have boosted local development.
Additionally, cultural exchanges and cooperation, including events like the Chinese Film Festival, have strengthened ties between the two countries.
Chinese enterprises operating in Nigeria are committed to green, low-carbon, and sustainable development, implementing practices that benefit the local community and environment.
The Belt and Road Initiative is not about creating exclusive circles, but rather a collaborative platform where China and Nigeria work together to achieve mutual benefits.
As both nations embark on this new journey, there is immense potential for win-win outcomes, aligning with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Plan and China’s continued economic growth.
