The Bwari branch of the Nigerian Bar Association in the Federal Capital Territory has expressed deep concern regarding the escalating insecurity within communities under its jurisdiction.
Recent weeks have witnessed a series of abductions, with The PUNCH reporting multiple incidents involving residents in the area.
On January 5, gunmen seized at least seven individuals and injured two policemen in the Zuma 1 area of Bwari.
In response to these troubling events, the Chairman of the Bwari branch, Paul Daudu, issued a statement on Monday, lamenting the erosion of peace and the persistent threats faced by residents.
The released statement conveys the association’s profound distress, stating, The Bwari branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (Cradle Bar) is deeply troubled by the increasing insecurity in Bwari and its vicinity.
Our top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents, including our members residing and practicing law in this community.
In recent months, there has been a disturbing surge in criminal activities, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
These ongoing incidents not only cause distress among our members and residents but also hinder economic activities and social cohesion in our community.
It is disheartening to witness the breakdown of peace in Bwari and its surroundings, where residents face constant threats daily.
The challenge of sleeping with closed eyes has become a reality. We emphasize that Bwari Area Council is home to crucial national assets such as JAMB, the Nigerian Law School Headquarters, and Veritas University, among others.
Daudu urged relevant law enforcement agencies, especially the Nigerian Police Force, to take immediate and decisive actions to restore law and order in Bwari and its environs.
