Nigerian refineries, including Dangote, aim to stop the country’s fuel importation within 18 months, provided the government collaborates with them.
These refineries have the capacity to meet Nigeria’s fuel needs but are hindered by issues such as crude oil theft and insufficient government support.
The Dangote refinery is nearing operational status, but there are concerns that it might become Nigeria’s sole fuel supplier, potentially creating a monopoly.
The government is cautious about over-reliance on a single refinery, prioritizing energy security and preventing monopolistic control.
The refineries urge the government to partner with them to overcome these challenges, believing that cooperation can eliminate fuel importation and fulfill Nigeria’s energy requirements.
