The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission achieved a significant milestone with 65 convictions for financial fraud from January to December 15 in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.
Sokoto Zonal Commander, Mr. Aliyu Yunusa, disclosed this accomplishment during a celebratory event, attributing the success to staff dedication, collaboration with government entities, and support from community organizations.
The convictions predominantly involved cases of impersonation, stolen fund acceptance, ATM card duplication, and fraudulent representations.
Yunusa emphasized the agency’s commitment to combating cybercrime and acknowledged challenges such as staffing shortages and the need for specialized training.
The commander highlighted ongoing partnerships with anti-corruption clubs in schools, the National Youth Service Corps, and community-based organizations to address crime at various levels.
Yunusa commended journalists for their support and urged increased efforts in educating the public about fraud prevention and EFCC activities.
The event saw attendance from officials of federal and state agencies, along with community groups. (NAN)
